Abstract :
Students with intellectual-developmental disabilities face numerous challenges in performing daily activities and social skills. On the other hand, the mental health and motivational beliefs of parents, especially mothers as the main caregivers, play a key role in the rehabilitation process of these children. The present study aimed to predict the adaptive behavior of students with intellectual-developmental disabilities based on the level of mothers' self-efficacy. This was a descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population consisted of all mothers with children with intellectual-developmental disabilities in Tehran in 2025, of which 315 people were selected through purposive sampling. In this study, the Weiland-Dahl Adaptive Behavior Questionnaire (1953) and the Luthans Psychological Capital Questionnaire (2007) were used. Pearson correlation test and simultaneous regression were used to analyze the data. The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between mothers' self-efficacy and students' adaptive behavior. The results of regression analysis also showed that mothers' self-efficacy has the ability to explain (28%) of the variance in adaptive behavior scores. In other words, with an increase in mothers' self-efficacy beliefs, the level of adaptive behavior in their children also improves. Based on the findings of this study, mothers' self-efficacy is an important variable in predicting the functional capabilities of children with intellectual disabilities. It is suggested that consultants and specialists in the field of exceptional education design intervention programs to improve mothers' self-confidence and coping skills, because empowering mothers will directly lead to improved quality of life and adaptive skills of these students.
