Business intelligence is a set of theories, methodologies, architectures and technologies that transform raw data into meaningful and useful information for business purposes. BI as a discipline is made up of several related activities, including data mining, online analytical processing, querying and reporting. Companies use BI to improve decision making, cut costs and identify new business opportunities. BI is more than just corporate reporting and more than a set of tools to coax data out of enterprise systems. With today’s BI tools, business folks can jump in and start analyzing data themselves, rather than wait for IT to run complex reports. Evaluating the effectiveness of Business intelligence system is vital to our understanding of the value and efficacy of management actions and investments. This research aims to explain and clarify the inter-relationships and the interaction effects among business intelligence systems maturity and other relevant factors such as information access quality and information content quality. We developed a model of business intelligence systems maturity based on the outcomes of previous researches and semi-structured interviews with experts in information technology. To examine the model a descriptive survey was applied. The survey sample population consisted of 100 randomly taken managers and IT managers who apply Business intelligence system in their companies, according to a cluster random sampling skim. An important part of the results revealed business intelligence systems maturity relates directly with information quality and use of information in business process. Manuscript profile

Business intelligence (BI) is the tool used by enterprises to collect, manage and analyze structural and non-structural data and also information by taking advantage of modern information technology. It utilizes a substantial amount of collected data during the daily operational processes, and transforms the data into information and knowledge to avoid the supposition and ignorance of the enterprises. In the last decade, Business intelligence has evolved as one of the critical applications in organizations to provide useful insight, support decision-making, and drive organizational performance. However, to avoid the ineffective experiences during the deployment, it is important to clarify the impact factors of a BI system and find out a Suitable assessment method to evaluate the performance of BI systems. Evaluating the effectiveness of business intelligence systems is vital to our understanding of the value and efficacy of management actions and investments. This research is a descriptive survey. We construct an Assessment model to assess the performance of business intelligence systems based on the outcomes of previous researches. Furthermore, an expert questionnaire using fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to filter out useful performance indicators. The analytic hierarchy process is a structured technique for organizing and analyzing complex decisions. Finally, we analyze a real case by using the constructed assessment model for Business Intelligence systems. We choose an automotive parts manufacturer as a case. The survey sample population consisted of 66 randomly taken employees and managers of the case. The results indicate that the performance of Business Intelligence system in our case was suitable. This paper explains the nature of integration between knowledge management (KM) and Business Intelligence (BI). There has been some confusion as to the relationship between KM and BI. BI mainly focuses on explicit knowledge, but KM encompasses both tacit and explicit knowledge. Both of them promote learning, decision- making and understanding. KM influences BI through organizational knowledge creation, knowledge transfer and learning. Therefore, this paper defines BI as a part of KM by evaluating importance of their integration. As this relationship improves right decision-making in organizations and their performance because of the rise and fall of the economic environment, enterprises need to adjust their policies and strategies rapidly in order to respond to sophistication of competitors, customers and suppliers. Information is known as the main key for enterprises so integrating Business Intelligence and Knowledge management are used not only for saving suitable information for enterprise but also for improving performance and process of activities in organizations. Nowadays, having the ability of foresight and decision-making is essential for any organization. Advanced and successful organizations have chosen knowledge-oriented strategy to survive in the competitive and rapidly changing environments. Handling of changes and good decision making about them plays a central role in the future success or failure of organizations. Two important concepts that have important role in managers’ decision makings are Business Intelligence (BI) and Knowledge Management (KM). Business intelligence and knowledge management are relative concepts to each other .The relations between these concepts has not been yet offered clearly and determining the boundary of these two concepts is difficult for managers. Researchers have considered different links between them. In this paper, business intelligence and knowledge management will be defined and then different viewpoints about the type of relationship between these concepts will be expressed. In general, it is recognized that knowledge management and business intelligence both have common and same goal which is improving decision-making process and finally improving the business performance. Implementation and execution of these concepts would consider as organization's competitive advantage. However, knowledge management, including both explicit and tacit knowledge, and also considers unstructured data, while business intelligence generally focuses on explicit knowledge. Finally, concluded that, knowledge management and business intelligence should be integrated regardless of the type of relationship between them, because each has advantages and disadvantages. Implementing Business Intelligence Systems (BI) requires a lot of resources and time. The statistics show that billions of dollars are spent on these business intelligence systems (BIS), which show how important they are. Also, the cost of these systems is a large part of the expense of the organization. Unfortunately, with all these huge costs in these systems, more than half of the BI projects do not go to the real benefits of business intelligence systems. Here's one reason why organizations are not able to grasp the real benefits of business intelligence systems: Many of them are not ready for these systems. This is due to some of the challenges in implementing BI systems in organizations. BI implementation experiences show that the successful implementation of BI is beyond the implementation of technical infrastructure (hardware aspects) and requires the control of soft aspects and change management, which are recognized as the most difficult aspects of the successful implementation of BI applications. Business intelligence is a complex concept and has multi-layered architecture, which is why the BI readiness model is needed. Assessing BI readiness identifies specific implementation risk sections to manage and reduce these risks and thus increase the likelihood of BI success. So far, several models have been developed to prepare BI systems. In this paper, introduced models for BI readiness are presented, and then these models are compared based on the factors influencing BI readiness. Manuscript profile

Despite potential tourism capacities in Iran, few foreign tourists visit Iran compared to the competing countries due to the lack of infrastructure, the existence of legal barriers, and the sanctions imposed against Iran. As considerable growth in the application of information technology to tourism is one of the main trends in this industry, this applied exploratory study sought to identify future scenarios of business intelligence in Iran’s tourism industry using both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze the collected data. The population of the study comprised tourism, future study, and business intelligence experts, out of whom the intended participants were selected via judgmental sampling. The study was conducted in three phases. In the first phase, thirty effective driving forces of the prospective business intelligence in the tourism industry were identified by reviewing the related literature and interviewing the experts. In the next phase, the identified driving forces were screened and prioritized using the EDAS. To this end, the driving forces were screened via the Binominal test, twenty of which were eliminated from the analysis, accordingly. Then, the remaining ten driving forces were assessed using the EDAS method. Finally, the type of decision-making culture and the arrival of foreign tourists were selected as the final driving forces, which, together with the application of root definitions and the organization of consultation workshop, formed the basis of offering four scenarios, namely the prosperity, heterogeneity, the spider web, and the ice ages. Accordingly, the prosperity and ice age scenarios illustrate the best and worst conditions for the future of business intelligence in tourism, respectively. Manuscript profile
