1 - “I” and the Criterion for its Distinction from “others” in Suhrawardī, Mullā Ṣadrā, and Descartes

The present study discusses the identity and referent of “I” and the criterion for distinguishing “true I” from the other in the views of Suhrawardī, Mullā Ṣadrā, and Descartes. According to these three philosophers, “I” is the external and self-revealing identity that Man learns about through presential knowledge. The referent of true I in Suhrawardī’s view is immaterial light, which enjoys continuous self-awareness through the permanent manifestation of essence. In Mullā Ṣadrā’s philosophy, referent is a level of existence which is continually in a state of change in the cradle of the trans-substantial motion; it is a graded realm with no fixed identity. For Descartes, the referent is an immaterial dimension that is continually involved in a state of thinking. Therefore, all three philosophers believe that true “I” is in fact a perceptive, knowledgeable, and thinking “I”. The distinction criterion for true I is also the same for all of them. This is because Suhrawardī and Mullā Ṣadrā consider continuous knowledge and not neglecting the self, which is the same as self-awareness, to be the distinction criterion for true I. However, Descartes’ criterion is clarity and distinction, which seem to be the same thing that Suhrawardī and Mullā Ṣadrā call continuous presence or self-awareness. Hence, it seems that the distinction criterion for “true I” is the same in the view of all the three philosophers. Manuscript profile

Sexual dysfunction is often accompanied by emotional imbalance, diminished psychological and sexual self-esteem. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of compassion-based psychotherapy on self-awareness and sexual self-esteem of women with sexual dysfunction symptoms. A semi- experimental research design with pre-test, post-test, and follow-up measurements was employed. The study population consisted of married women with sexual dysfunction who sought counseling in the family counselling centers in Tehran between January 2023 to April 2023. The research sample included 30 women with sexual dysfunction who were purposefully selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and randomly assigned to two groups: experimental(15 participants) and control (15 participants). Data were collected using the Female Sexual Function Index, the short form of the Sexual Self-Esteem Scale, and the Self-Compassion Scale. The experimental group received 12 sessions of 90-minute compassion-based psychotherapy, while the control group did not receive any treatment. Data were analyzed using SPSS 24 software through repeated measures analysis of variance and Bonferroni post- hoc test. The results of repeated measures analysis of variance revealed significant differences between post-test and follow-up measurements of the experimental and control groups in sexual self-esteem and self-awareness scores (p ≤ 0.001). The therapeutic effects were maintained during the 3-month follow- up. Based on the findings, compassion-based psychotherapy was found to be effective in enhancing self- awareness and sexual self-esteem of women with sexual dysfunction symptoms. Therefore, further research is recommended to explore the efficacy of this approach and compare it with other evidence- based treatments in larger samples. Manuscript profile

<p>The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of cognitive emotion regulation training on self-esteem and self-awareness of female students with emotional failure. The method of this research was practical and semi-experimental in which a pretest-posttest design was used with a control group. The target population of this research was 22 female students of Hekmat Razavi Institute of Higher Education who had emotional failure, selected by voluntary sampling and were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. The experimental group received training during ten 90-minute sessions, while the control group did not undergo any intervention. Ras Love Shock Questionnaire (1999) was used to screen the subjects, and Cooper Smith's self-esteem questionnaire (1967) and Cooper Smith's self-awareness questionnaire (1997) were used in the pre-test and post-test. The findings of this research showed that cognitive emotion regulation training significantly increased self-esteem and self-awareness in the experimental group compared to the control group (p&lt;0.05). Cognitive emotion regulation training is a suitable method to increase self-esteem and emotional self-awareness in people who have suffered emotional failure and can be used as an intervention based on empirical evidence.</p> Manuscript profile

<p>Mobile architecture and adaptive environments are significant considerations in the realm of architecture. Achieving an environment with adaptable structures is the main focus of the research, encompassing methods from the smallest component to the largest assemblies. The primary objective of this research is to design and construct a mobile and responsive environment capable of selecting and utilizing the appropriate models by collecting environmental data. The research methodology is applied, aiming to develop existing methods by leveraging principles from foundational research. The focal point of the research lies in detailed joint design through regular volumes and exploration of opening and closing possibilities. Two of the most suitable volumes, octahedron, and regular icosahedron, serve as the basis of investigation. This research employs an examination of multimodal geometries and their modeling in Rhino 6 software, feasibility studies using SolidWorks 2021 Service Pack 4 software, environment analysis through Python, and command issuance through robotics operating system. Findings showed that using octahedral and icosahedron geometries enables the creation of modular structure capable of mobility within the environment and the establishment of self-structuring system. Moreover, it is feasible to imbue the structure with self-awareness using perceptual and operator units. The designed structure is compact and closed in the octahedral state, with the ability to transform into a twenty-sided configuration from two directions. This transformation drives the structure both backward and forward, facilitating movement. Between the two lateral joints, a static and straightforward hinged structure with minimal movement is positioned, connecting the movable joints and fostering structural integrity.</p> Manuscript profile
