Comparing the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation and mindfulness training on the restoration of executive functions in children with learning disabilities in Shahrekord city

Abstract :
The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation and mindfulness training on the restoration of executive functions in children with learning disabilities. This study was conducted using a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included 36 male students aged 8-10 with learning disabilities in Shahrekord city in the academic year 1403-1404. Purposive sampling was performed and the subjects were randomly assigned to three groups of 12 (two experimental groups and one control group). The data collection tool was the Brief Executive Functions Questionnaire, which measures components such as working memory, response inhibition, cognitive flexibility, and planning. The experimental groups each underwent cognitive rehabilitation and mindfulness training for 8 sessions of 45 minutes, while the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were analyzed using univariate and multivariate analysis of covariance. The results showed that the mean post-test scores of executive function components in the experimental groups increased significantly (p<0.05). Also, no significant difference was observed between the effectiveness of the two training methods. These findings indicate the effectiveness of interventions based on cognitive rehabilitation and mindfulness in improving executive functions of children with learning disabilities.
