Psychometric Properties of the Persian version of the Parental Acceptance Questionnaire (6-PAQ)

Abstract :
Due to the role of parents' psychological inflexibility in the development of different psychological problems of children, it is necessary to have a reliable tool to identify and measure it. The aim of present study was to examine the factorial structure, validity and reliability of the Persian version of the Parental Acceptance Questionnaire (PAQ-6). The statistical population of the research included parents of children and adolescents aged 1 to 18 years, from whom a sample of 415 mothers was selected using available sampling. The research tools included PAQ-6, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II), Maternal Emotional Styles Questionnaire (MESQ), Parenting Style Questionnaire (BPSI) and Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). In order to check the reliability of the instrument, the internal consistency method was used using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and to check the validity of the instrument, the construct validity was used using the method of confirmatory factor analysis and convergent and divergent validity. SPSS-27 and AMOS-26 software were used for data analysis. The results showed that the coefficient of internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha method for the whole 6-PAQ is 0.89 and for its six components it is between 0.76 and 0.78. Also, the correlation between the scores of the PAQ-6 and parallel questionnaires was calculated, which indicates the appropriate convergent and divergent validity for this questionnaire. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the six-factor model of the PAQ-6. The final model obtained with the research data has a good fit. The findings showed that the Persian version of the PAQ-6 has acceptable psychometric properties in the Iranian population.
