Relationship between emotional maturity and marital self-disclosure with marital commitment: Investigating mediating role of attitude towards extramarital relationships in married women of Isfahan city

Abstract :
In a healthy marriage, there is intimacy, commitment, marital satisfaction, as well as non-violence and extramarital relationships. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between emotional maturity and marital self-disclosure with marital commitment, with the mediation of attitude towards extramarital relationships. Descriptive-correlation research method and the statistical population of the research included all married women of Isfahan city in 1402-1403, who were selected by available sampling method. Emotional maturity questionnaires of Yashvir Singh and Mahesh Bhargava (1991), marital self-disclosure by Waring et al. (1998), attitudes toward marital infidelity by Watley (2008) and marital commitment by Adams and Jones (1997) were used. The data were used in descriptive and inferential levels with AMOS-24 software. The results showed emotional maturity on marital commitment (β = -0.152, P = 0.021), self-disclosure on attitude towards extramarital relationships (P<0.001, 290/ β=0.0) and attitude towards extramarital relationships had a negative and significant effect on marital commitment (p<0.001, β=0.319). Also, emotional maturity had a significant positive effect on attitude towards extramarital relationships (p<0.001, β=0.270) and self-disclosure of marital commitment (p<0.001, β=0.621). The attitude towards extramarital relationships has a mediating role in the relationship between emotional maturity and marital commitment, and its indirect effect is -0.0864. These findings can help researchers interested in family, couple therapists and social psychologists in finding appropriate ways to investigate this issue more deeply.
