This paper explores several characteristics of patents in the biotechnology field, comparing and contrasting them to patents in other fields of research. We find that biotechnology patents face a longer lag between application and grant date, and their secrecy would be heavily affected if legislation were to permit publication 18 months after application. They are highly concentrated geographically, as well as in industrial origin, and are used most heavily in the health sector, but have a wider spread in use than in origin. They use many more (and much more recent) references than the average patent, with a special weight on academic or scientific literature, foreign patents, and a tight circle of research fields. While they are not cited frequently on average, their use as germplasm is rising. Future research should focus on the questions that have been uncovered Manuscript profile

The Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of Iran - as one of the first scientific and technological institutions resulting from the Islamic Revolution - was established in 1980. The tasks and goals of this organization are based on the creation and development of technology and support for innovators and technologists, whose achievements have inspired other scientific and research centers in the country. In the path of technological research, from the stage of idea creation to the production of a product or the development of a business process, various stages must be taken, during which the researcher or technology needs different types of support. The support provided by the Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of Iran in this regard includes facilitating the implementation of processes by creating appropriate systems and platforms and providing the necessary hardware and software facilities. Also, at present, the most extensive support program has been crystallized in the organization's science and technology campus. Since its establishment, this complex has received more than 300 units and now more than 140 technology companies are present in this complex, presenting more than 600 technologies in the form of products or services. Iran Scientific and Industrial Research Organization with more than 40 years of successful experience in the field of science and technology, in its second evolutionary step seeks to open new horizons to meet the needs of society in the field of science and technology, اثر effective role To play in the development of the country's knowledge-based economy. Biotechnology industry has a special place among novel industries and its progress and development speed just in less than three years, is seems surprising. Biotechnology is one of those crucial and important technologies that its success and impact are caused by its capabilities and extended applications. Most biotech companies are small start ups and although they have been working for several years in this area, they have not been able to achieve significant profitability yet. The evidence proves that there are some problems in process of translating research findings into commercial outcomes. The term commercialization strategy is refers to research and technology exploitation methods in front of researchers and scientists to move their science streams from concept to the market environment. This article intended to identify and introduce the most appropriate strategy of research commercialization in the Iranian biotechnology companies through the mixed methods study. Manuscript profile

Technology transfer is one of the important and fundamental issues that can lead to technology promotion and moving toward sustainable development. Technology Transfer is a practical usage of academic researches, to transfer ideas and researches into technology or products. This process needs cooperation of more than one party. In technology transfer one side is researchers and academic body that have new ideas and the other side is industry that makes profit. Due to the rapid growth of new technology, and its importance in terms of welfare and economic growth, ignoring technology transfer may cause recession. Using academic ideas, transferring them and doing researches on industry is called Technology Transfer. Biotechnology industry, with a wide range of applications, allocates large part of the global market to itself. We select this industry regarding to importance and increasing growth of Biotechnology. We are going to identify institutional and environmental determinants of university technology transfer. Institutional factors are those which firm can control them and are surrounded by firm. But environmental factors are those which can affect the firm and can’t be controlled by the firm. Then by using eclectic method we are able to identify some variables. In qualitative part by using interview, we recognize some variables, and then we distribute 60 questionnaires among biotech researchers. Consequently, we settle institutional and environmental factors, and clarify that institutional factors are more significant than environmental ones. Manuscript profile
